My journey in the teaching career

In my teaching career I worked with pupils from diverse cultures and various age ranges. I enjoy motivating young people and helping them to fall in love with physical education, sports and lifelong wellbeing. I have an exceptional understanding of health and fitness concepts and my passion is to share those concepts with students.

I am former head of PE department (middle school in the Czech Republic), I was fully responsible for the whole sports curriculum, PE teachers’ meetings, sport days, competitions/races, organisation and delivery of after school clubs.

Simultanesly with my university job I do still also organize sport events at ZS Usti nad Labem, Stribrnicka middle school. Such as alpine and cross-countryskiing courses (most recently in Austrian Alps) and I run after school clubs as a part of extra-curricular activities for students.

As a former athlete I would like to further inspire colleagues and pupils to approach PE teaching and learning innovatively. Not long ago, I conducted physical activity assessment in 3rd and 7th to better understand students’ physical level after the effect of COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. This helped me to devise the PE curriculum in order to help the pupils improve their fitness and identify gaps in our PE and sport provision. I love to organize sport events for the whole school on a professional level as well.

I enjoy contributing to the community spirit of school by involving also the pupils’ families and local community in sports activities related to school. My organisational skills are exceptional as in the past I worked on different local organizing committees during the World cup races in cross-country and roller skiing in China and Germany.

For the past couple months, I also have been in charge of continuous teacher training of three PE Spanish Erasmus student-teachers from Andalusia at my school. Thanks to this experience I do have deeper understanding of Spanish educational system similarities and differences as well. I also had the opportunity to visit a primary school in London, UK. I have exposure to British education and system through my young cousins that are being educated in Britain and I have received extensive mentoring from their school governor. I have realized that during the last fifteen years of my teaching career (in Czechia, Denmark and China), physical education classes provide students with useful skills and valuable knowledge which they can adapt for real life more than other school subjects no matter where the school is located.

I am very proud of my educational achievements and I am grateful for the opportunities that I had to study in different countries and universities. It enriched my personal and professional development, as well as my intercultural competence and awareness. I believe that my education has prepared me well for my current career as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Physical Education and Sports at Univerzita J. E. Purkyně v Ústí nad Labem – Pedagogical Faculty in Czechia.
